Egypt 1979 AD — 1399 AH Silver One Pound Coin 25th Anniversary of the Abbasia Mint Beautiful Proof Uncirculated For your Egyptian Coin Collection-EGC788 Details Description: Beautiful lustrous proof coin dated 1979 (1399 AH). This is a One Egyptian Pound silver coin. The coin was issued to commemorate the twenty fifth anniversary, or the Silver Jubilee, of the Abbasia Mint in Cairo Egypt. It depicts the image of the mint building with the design depicting a die head within a cogwheel above it and the date all on the obverse. The obverse also indicates in beautiful calligraphy that this is for the silver jubilee of the mint. The reverse is all in beautiful decorative Arabic Calligraphy showing the dates, the denomination, and the words «Arab Republic of Egypt.» Just a great looking coin measuring about 35 millimeters in diameter. It is KM-488 and weighs 15 grams of 0.72 silver. This is a rather rare coin with a mintage of 2,000 coins in the proof issue. Please carefully review the photos provided as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: 1979 AD — 1399 AH. Mint: Egypt. Size and weight: This is a one pound, weighs ~15 grams and is ~35 mm in diameter. References: It is KM #488. Condition: I would grade this coin as a beautiful lustrous proof with all the details being very well preserved and lustrous appearance. The coin is much better than the photos suggest.
