eBay Antique Art Deco Bronze Statue Lamp “ Thoughts ” by Guiraud Riviere Etling Paris c1930 Signed Presented is a great lamp that appears to be a bronze statue signed by the fantastic artist Guiraud Riviere through Etling Paris. Maurice GUIRAUD-RIVIERE, Toulouse (1881-1947) an eminent French sculptor and designer of the Art Deco period. He exhibited at the Salon des Beaux Arts as early as 1911, and worked extensively with Parisian bronze foundry Etling who cast his works for over 30 years. This great lamp has a heavy marble base with the statue of a nude woman with her hands upon her knees resting her head. I assume this statue was made later into a lamp with various marble layers accenting the height and with a working frame work for electric bulb with a ball like screw on ball finial on top of harp frame for shade. It has a standard 250 W socket for bulb with a pull chain. There are a few cracks in and a broken off piece from the marble base but the statue and marble slices that make up the lamp pillar of lamp have only some fine scratches from gentle use and care. I am not an expert in Bronze statuary or metallurgy and am not willing to cut into statue or to take this item apart to determine whether this item is bronze or spelt. I have an interesting assortment of items listed so please look at my other auctions. Measure: 24” inches tall to top of ball finial lamp shade holder, 7 ½” inches wide across, 3 ¼” wide Weight: 10 pounds 7 ounces on my postal scale Marks: Guiraud Riviere Etling Paris Condition: no dents or dings, no monogram, title around base, some missing or ware to paint, some light scratches. The lamp has a slight lean; please see pictures for details. The lamp shade in vintage and discolored and needs cleaning or replacement.
