GOOD to VERY GOOD CONDITION This sale is for a vintage hardback edition entitled “London,” Volume One, subtitled “The Cities of London and Westminster,” by Professor Nikolaus Pevsner, revised by Bridget Cherry, illustrated with 161 vintage photographic plates, 22 figures in the glossary, 3 double-page and one single page frontispiece maps: London The City; S. Holborn, Strand, & Fleet Street; Mayfair & St. James’s; Westminster, Belgravia, & Pimlico. It was published by Penguin Books, of Harmondsworth, Middlesex, in 1973, is the third edition, extensively revised and is one of the wonderful vintage “The Buildings of England” series. Sir Nikolaus Bernhard Leon Pevsner, CBE, (1902-1983) was a German-born British scholar of art and architecture. He is best known for his 46-volume series of county-by-county guides, “The Buildings of England (1951-74)”, one of the great achievements of 20th century art scholarship. The book is in good neat condition for its age, with wear and tears/chips to the edge of the original dust-jacket (price-clipped), a previous owner’s gift inscription at the front, and no other ink or pencil writings/markings in the book. The binding is good with no loose or missing pages. A wonderfully illustrated vintage edition. This was a decision we reluctantly took but is necessary in view of the increased costs borne by Royal Mail.” If the Royal Mail reduce their charges in the future (in particular what they term “Temporary Air Carrier Supplement Pricing”) unwinsbooks will reduce the international costs accordingly.
