You are bidding on one very interesting and unusual wood plane as pictured. It has some condition issues, so please keep reading.I can’t find any markings on the body.The iron is marked «PEUGEOT FRERES» which is partially obscured, and then a hand logo and «A ABOUAV ET N BENHAM» below that. ABOUAV might be ABOUAW or ABOUAY. Peugeot Freres is a prolific French maker of plane irons (translates to Peugeot Brothers), but I don’t recognize the names below that.Width of the body is about 2-1/2″, not including the arms that stick out, and length is about 7-5/8″. The iron is about 1-3/4″ in width and about 4-5/8″ in length. It has no provision for a chip breaker as can be seen.The plane weighs 1 pound 2.1 ounces on my postal scale. The wood seems rather light in weight.It features:— the symmetrical profile, which is best seen by looking at the iron, and I would call it a cove-bead-cove. The bead measured to the two little tips is about a 32nd over 5/8″ in width, or about 16mm.— the two long arms or handles that stick out each side. The rear arm can be seen in the 10th picture where it was partially cut to make room for the iron.— the interesting upside down V shape and hollow cutout on the upper front of the body.— the body wood is pale in color, and seems rather light. I’m not at all sure what it might be, but it is quite smooth on the top and sides. The wedge is a different wood, as are the arms as the arm wood is very grainy. — the single iron.Condition is mostly fair to good, but with some serious issues. The body wood seems to split or crack easily, and there is a substantial crack that goes all the way from the back end to the throat. There is a metal staple or pinch dog at the very back end of the plane that seems to be holding the crack together. The rear cross arm will rotate a few degrees, while the front cross arm is tight, and neither will come out. Both arms are worn out on the ends, especially the rear arm. The rest of the body has a variety of cracks, and the two little «wings» that hold the wedge are cracked, and the right side «wing» may have been reglued. The profile area is worn in places, especially at the front end. The wedge is rough, with both tips broken off. The iron has quite a bit of pitting and roughness, and is heavily peened over on the upper end. A very unusual little plane! The Post Office now has several prices increases during each year, raising a few things but not everything at each increase. And they now raise their rates during the Holidays, which means early October to late January. Their big increases are in January, timed to start at the end of the Holiday rates, and this year is no exception. And it’s not just the postage rates, the insurance charges and the delivery signature charges have also gone up. There is now a surcharge for Priority Mail packages over 20″ long, and another for Priority Mail packages over 30″ long, because those longer packages won’t fit in their automatic machines. And the Post Office has discontinued the Regional Flat Rate boxes, which were often less expensive for certain sizes and weights. I try to pick the best shipping option for each listing, based both on what is the least expensive and on what I think is needed to protect the item. If the value is $250 or over, eBay requires your signature at delivery for the buyer and seller protections to be in effect.SALES TAX: Interstate sales tax is now the reality on all the major selling websites including eBay. If I ship to a state where eBay is required to collect sales tax, eBay will charge you the sales tax for your location. There is lots of information available from eBay that explains it in much more detail. The sales tax is completely out of my hands — I don’t have anything to do with deciding whether to charge tax, I don’t have anything to do with deciding the tax rate, and I never see any of the funds that are collected, they go directly to eBay.SELLING OUTSIDE OF EBAY: Why would I risk my lengthy good standing with eBay to save you a couple of dollars? Especially when you ask on an email that is sent through the eBay email system? Please don’t ask, the answer is no.INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: I no longer ship Internationally other than Canada. If you are in Canada, ask for what the shipping would cost, but be prepared for it to be $$$$$. AUCTIONS: I won’t end an auction listing early to sell it to you directly. As a bidder, I really dislike going back at the end of an auction to bid, only to discover that the seller had ended the auction early.
