About the Book: The world’s finest sacred architecture often incorporates universal symbols that visually connect to the Atonement of Jesus Christ—the ultimate act of love fulfilling the Father’s Eternal Covenant with humanity. For many Christians, the cross symbolizes Christ’s Atonement, while for Latter-day Saints, it is often represented by Gethsemane and its ancient olive trees. One of the most universal symbols, however, found in nearly every world religion, is the relationship between the circle and the square. This geometric relationship represents «reconciliation»—the harmony between heaven and earth, or between God and man. Reconciliation is central to the Atonement and appears in the design of many of the world’s most important structures. These structures often use three distinct geometric forms tied to the square and circle to convey this idea of reconciliation. These three geometric forms are referred to as «archetypes» due to their widespread use across cultures and religions. Their reconciling symbolism can be found at Stonehenge, the Great Pyramid, Buddhist stupas, historic Christian cathedrals, and modern LDS temples. Each of these archetypes expresses the concept of reconciliation and, more specifically, points to the Savior’s Atonement. But what exactly are these three archetypes? And how do they illustrate reconciliation in general and the Atonement of Christ in particular? Exploring these questions leads us to *priscia sapienta*, a Latin phrase meaning «ancient wisdom.» This wisdom is embedded in the sacred geometry of the world’s most enduring structures, offering profound insights into the universal principles of faith and the divine mission of Jesus Christ. About author, Val Brinkerhoff: Val Brinkerhoff enjoyed a distinguished 35-year career teaching photography, both commercial and fine art, at the college level from 1980 to 2015. Starting at the age of 23, he taught at Western Wyoming College, Colorado Mountain College, Utah State University, and eventually Brigham Young University (BYU). He retired from BYU’s Design Department in 2015 after two decades of dedicated teaching. During his time at BYU, Brinkerhoff authored numerous magazine articles, published his first books, and showcased his fine art photography in exhibitions across the United States. His last solo exhibit was held at the Springville Museum of Art in Utah. Alongside his teaching and creative endeavors, he seized the opportunity to travel extensively, visiting 45 countries in just five years. These travels deepened his fascination with sacred architecture, leading him to study its visual language and spiritual meanings. Brinkerhoff’s exploration of sacred spaces became intertwined with his study of scripture and his quest to understand God’s purpose and designs. This transformative journey prompted his early retirement in 2015 to focus on spiritual pursuits and helping others develop a deeper relationship with God. His teachings and insights, shared through various platforms, aim to awaken others to the love of God the Father, Jesus Christ, and their eternal plan. Central to Brinkerhoff’s message is the belief that a relationship with Jesus Christ is of paramount importance. He identifies Jesus as Messiah ben Joseph, the suffering servant who, like Joseph of Egypt, endured betrayal but ultimately saved his people (referencing Isaiah 53, Psalm 22, and Luke 24:27). Brinkerhoff also highlights Jesus as Messiah ben David, the returning King and Judge who will triumph over all evil (Daniel 7:13-14). Brinkerhoff emphasizes the need for repentance and coming unto Christ to be «born again» in Him. He affirms that Jesus Christ is «the way, the truth, and the life» (John 14:6), and his writings inspire others to embrace this path to spiritual fulfillment. In 2017 Val was excommunicated from the LDS church. He blames it all on his Stake President who didn’t like what he was writing. This book was published four years before this event occurred.
