Magnificent modern Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin Environment 70 square white painted Parsons side table. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. This table has been completely refinished. The original white painted finish has been repainted white. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1970’s. Now THIS is a trifecta of terrific-ness!!! Milo Baughman, Thayer Coggin, AND Parsons?!?!?! WOW!! This modern side table has quite the iconic reputation!! And, as if being tagged by the dynamic duo of Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin wasn’t enough to blow your mind, this table is also Parson’s style!! Parson’s style is such a classic design that dates to 1930 when French designer Jean-Michael Frank decided he was going to design a table that was simple enough that it could fit into any home regardless of style preference. This version is from the Environment 70 line by Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin. Contemporary, Art Deco, Bauhaus, Hollywood Regency, Industrial, traditional, mid-century modern, or modern, Parson’s style tables just work anywhere. And this white painted square Parson’s side table is no exception to that rule! It will be fabulous with any design style in any room of your home. One of the most remarkable partnerships in the mid-century modern to modern design world was the phenomenal furniture making duo of Milo Baughman and Thayer Coggin. Milo Baughman, a 20th Century genius of design, was born in Western Kansas in 1923 but was moved a year later by his family to Long Beach, California. He created Milo Baughman Design Inc. in 1947 and began designing interiors and furniture. Thayer Coggin was born in 1922 in Denton, North Carolina. Twelve years later his family moved 25 miles north to High Point where he grew up surrounded by furniture manufacturing. Thayer’s first love was furniture and Milo’s was design. So, together in 1953, after the two met, history was made in American furniture making by one of the greatest collaborations in the industry. During his career and before his death in 2003, Milo did design for several other companies as well as his own, but it is his collaboration with Thayer Coggin that is most impressive and sought-after today. Thayer Coggin, Inc. is still in business today even after its namesake’s death and is still offering classic selections from the late Baughman’s designs. The original Parson’s table was designed in New York City at the Parson’s School of Design by French designer Jean-Michael Frank in the 1930’s. There is an article that states, «Frank challenged students to design a table so basic that it would retain its integrity whether sheathed in gold leaf, mica, parchment, split straw or painted burlap, or even left robustly unvarnished. What grew out of Frank’s sketches and the students’ participation was initially called the T-square table. Parsons tables are often intended for use as modern or contemporary furniture, and their striking design has made them popular as coffee tables, dining tables, side tables, and occasional tables.
